They deserve each other

It's always been a bit of a puzzler why and how Andy Wells became one of Danny Duplessis' favoured cronies.

That would be the same Andy who Danny once said deserved a "knocking" of some kind or another. Danny famously, in the 1997 St. John's mayoral campaign, in which he supported Jack Harris, "cruised past [Wells] in his Jaguar and shouted, 'We got you now!'"

That was then.

This is now, and there are boards — CNLOPB here, PUB there — to fill, and, probably, St. John's mayoral chairs to conveniently vacate.

Wonder no more. From the CBC:
Contacted by CBC News, Wells — who has come in for public criticism for his intent to collect two full-time public-sector salaries at once — made it clear he thought little of Jones's comments.

"I don't particularly care what the Liberals say … they count for nothing," Wells said.

"Who's Yvonne Jones? I think she's an MHA for Labrador, so I don't know if it's any of her business. She's not a voter in St. John's."
No, Andy, Yvonne Jones may not be a voter in St. John's. But she's a voter in the province that your PUB job will lord over, your lordliness.

Dismissive of anyone who dares express contrary views. Disdainful towards Labrador. Danny Wells and Andy Williams, in all their hubris and imperiousness, truly deserve each other.

Give them a room, or maybe a small, uninhabited island in Placentia Bay.

But stop giving them 44-seat majorities and regulatory appointments. They deserve each other, but their publics are rapidly no longer deserving them.
