Blowing it

From Randy Simms' column on the St. Barbe affair in Saturday's Telegram:
Had [former President of the PC Party Paul] Reynolds seized upon the matter and quickly granted the investigation, suspicions of bias would have been dispelled and his integrity never questioned.

He could have used the issue as an opportunity to advance the cause of his office, and the Tory government. It was the Williams administration, after all, that touted accountability and transparency as prime reasons why they should have the reins of power.

Yep, Reynolds blew it.
The job of a non-partisan officer of the House of Assembly is most emphatically NOT to advance the cause of the Tory government (or the Liberal government or the NDP government or the Newfoundland Liberation Front government or a coalition government or any other government.)

Yep, Randy Simms blew it.

Speaks volumes about the culture of VOCM which has clearly rotted Randy's brain, doesn't it?

They don't call it voice of the cabinet minister for nothing.

Hmmm... not to nitpick, but that sentence makes no temporal or grammatical sense.
