Off-track and contemptible (I)

1978? I wasn't even out of high school.
Anything more recent?
And where are you getting these archives?
Very impressive!

Well, despite the phrase borrowed for the headline (thanks!) it's not about you, it's about the remarkably deferential media treatment of The Thing We Are Not Allowed To Talk About overall.

Anything more recent?

Ohhhhhhhhh, yes.

And where are you getting these archives?

The liberry, but via a roundabout route: I have to use other sources (one I subscribe to, one I can access via the liberry) to find out when certain things happened in the past, if they were reported in other Canadian or world media outlets, especially before the dawn of the digital archiving days (which varies from about 1985 to as late as 2000, with a handful of earlier sources.)

Then it's off to microfilm-land, and a couple of quarters in a machine later, voilà.

Very impressive!

I love my handiwoik.

Forgot to add: Transcontinental, please digitize your back-files for public consumption and subscription, much as the Globe and Mail or Toronto Star or New York Times or LA Times or Times of London or Chicago Sun-Times or the Scotsman have done. I'll be first in line to sign up at $10 a month for a year.

kthxbye.
