Same "stuff", different election

St. John's Telegram, October 24, 2003:
Contrary to a rumour that's out there, Liberal MHA Eddie Joyce says there's no way he'd ever consider crossing the floor in the House of Assembly.

"I won't turn my back on the Liberal party. I'll die before I cross the floor."

Joyce, re-elected Tuesday in the Bay of Islands district, was responding to a phone call The Western Star newsroom received Thursday.

An unidentified caller, who said he and his family had voted for Joyce, said there had been whispers in the district that Joyce might join Danny Williams' Progressive Conservatives.
St. John's Telegram, September 27, 2007:
Yvonne Jones says she's running as a Liberal, and will serve a full four-year term as the Liberal MHA for Cartwright-L'Anse au Clair if she is re-elected Oct. 9.

Jones was responding Wednesday to speculation she was considering defecting to the Tories.

When contacted at her home in Mary's Harbour, Jones said she hadn't heard the rumours.

"It must be a Townie thing, b'y," she quipped.

Several political sources have told The Telegram Jones is unhappy and thinking about crossing the floor to join the governing Progressive Conservatives.
