The Chosen One

Tom Marshall "is quoted":
Goose Egg Delivered!
October 15, 2008

It is a goose egg for the federal Conservatives from Newfoundland and Labrador. The Liberals have taken six of the seven seats, the New Democrats the final one. In the biggest upset, Liberal Scott Andrews knocked off incumbent Fabian Manning in Avalon. In St John's South-Mount Pearl, there was a neck and neck race with New Democrat Ryan Cleary, but Siobhan Coady took the seat. It was her third try. In St John's East, New Democrat Jack Harris won by a landslide. Judy Foote took Random-Burin-St.Georges, and incumbents Scott Simms, Gerry Byrne and Todd Russell held onto their seats.

Finance Minister Tom Marshall says there's no question that the ABC campaign had a big impact on voters in this province. He says people chose Danny Williams over Stephen Harper.
Pretty neat trick, that — being "chosen" in an election in which you're not even running.

I hope to God that's just a really bad paraphrase.
