Watch out, Jack Harris
From the Ministry of Truth (provincial):
McKay May Represent Province at Cabinet Table
October 17, 2008
Speculation in Nova Scotia is that Peter McKay will be the cabinet minister responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador. With no MP on the government side, this province may find itself on the outside looking in when it comes to some issues. The Halifax Chronicle Herald expects that McKay, who withstood a challenge from Green Leader Elizabeth May, will be charged with the task of looking out for Newfoundland and Labrador at the cabinet table. As the minister responsible for ACOA, he's no stranger to this province. The paper also quotes McKay as saying the next time the wind changes, Premier Danny Williams will likely go off like a mad hatter again, and that he will soon be up to his old tricks. MacKay suggests Williams is quote "just cooling his jets until his next blow-up".
Having an MP from the mainland looking out for the interests of Newfoundland and Labrador at the federal cabinet table isn't going over well in some circles. On VOCM Open Line with Randy Simms this morning, long-time Liberal, Bill Callahan, made an argument for Senator Ethel Cochrane to become the province's cabinet rep.
