Before and After
So there were a lot of fires in Labrador earlier this summer, burning up a lot of country, and forcing a couple of precautionary evacuations.
How many fires, and how much country?
Lots. This is a false-colour Aqua satellite image of central Labrador from September 7, 2011:
And here's the same area — the first time it's been entirely cloud-free since the fires — on September 12, 2012. The darker brown patches are the fresh fire scars. Numerous older fire scars from years past (paler brown) and grown-in burns from decades ago (bright green) are also visible):
