Jeans Seeking Nomination From Alberta
June 6, 2007

It might be a sign of the times. At least one person seeking the nomination as an election candidate for this fall is currently living and working in Alberta. Robert Jeans is a former mayor of Change Islands. He wants the P C nomination in the current district of Twillingate - Fogo which will be renamed the Isles of Notre Dame Bay for the fall election. Jeans is residing in Grande Prairie. The Liberals have an election candidate who is living away, at least right now. Winston Carter will try to win Bonavista North in October. Carter is living in Ottawa where he is wrapping up his two-year term as president of the Canadian Teachers' Federation.
Of course, it's already proving not overly effective:

Rideout Facing Competition
June 6, 2007

Tom Rideout is expected to face at least one challenger for the Tory nomination in the new district of Baie Verte / Springdale. Springdale businessman Cyril Pelley says he's not deterred by Rideout's decision to switch districts. Meanwhile a former resident of Springdale now living in Fort McMurray, Alberta has given up on his plans to go for the nomination. Randy Edison says Rideout's decision would have made his nomination bid all that much more difficult.
