The battle of the e-ballots

VOCM, February 5th: Should the premier ask Andy Wells to step down as mayor to focus on his new job as chair and CEO of the PUB?
Question Date: 2/5/2008Total Votes: [15645]
Yes (54%)
No (45%)
Not sure (1%)
Look at the "vote"-count: someone tried, hard, to skew the VOCM poll (again).

Meanwhile, over at the harder-to-manipulate Telegram website, despite the obvious interest that someone has in the results of on-line polls, the results are very different from VOCM's single question on the Andy-Williams scandal:
1. If Andy Wells stays on as mayor of St. John’s when he takes up his full-time position with the Public Utilities Board March 1, should council approve a motion to reduce his mayor’s salary? (February 12, 2008)
Yes 76%
No 22%
Undecided 2%

10. Do you feel confident Andy Wells can do a good job and keep on top of issues as both St. John’s mayor, and chairman and CEO of the province’s Public Utilities Board? (February 3, 2008)
Yes 25%
No 72%
Undecided 3%

12. Do you agree with Andy Wells’ decision to work two full-time jobs — mayor of the capital city and chairman and CEO of the Public Utilities Board? (February 1, 2008)
Yes 21%
No 77%
Undecided 2%

25. Mayor Andy Wells has asked for input from the public on whether he should maintain his position as mayor despite his recent appointment to the Public Utilities Board. Should he: (January 19, 2008)
Leave now causing by-elections 41%
Leave in September 2008 allowing the deputy mayor to take over 40%
Stay on as mayor until the 2009 municipal elections 19%

26. St. John’s Mayor Andy Wells has been appointed chairman and CEO of the Public Utilities Board, effective March 1. Should he remain on the job as mayor as well? (January 18, 2008)
Yes 27%
No 70%
Undecided 4%

I made a point of whatching the VOCM poll knowing that someone likes to goose it - likely by computerised means - to the position favoured by the administration.

Sure enough. There several massive vote injections in a short space of time to goose it the "right" way.

Ultimately the goose was cooked.
