How Irish We Aren't!

From the Ministry of Truth (Provincial).

(And no, Province was not shutout. Province was shut out, as artists were. Attributive. Look it up.)
Province Shutout at ECMAs
February 11, 2008

Newfoundland and Labrador artists were shut out at the East Coast Music Awards. Joel Plaskett Emergency was the big winner, taking home six honours including recording of the year. The Halifax rockers led the pack with their successful C-D, Astray Rock. Of their seven nominations, the Emergency lost only to George Canyon in fan voting for entertainer of the year, an award he has now captured four years in a row. Dave Gunning, The Rankin Family and Jamie Sparks won two awards each.

Tourism, Culture and Recreation Minister Clyde Jackman says people should not expect the ECMA's in Corner Brook to be like similar events in St. John's. Jackman, who was in Fredericton this weekend representing the provincial government, says Corner Brook has its own unique way for holding big events including the 1999 Canada Winter Games. Jackman says musically things may be similar but from a tourism perspective it should allow for more exposure to the French and Scottish cultures that have heavily influence that part of the province.
