What they said (IX)
From the Advertiser editorial of February 11, 2010:
The spin-doctors on Confederation Building could have easily hidden the fact that government didn’t really want to have the burden of these buildings around its neck. They could have told us it was all in the plan – but they didn’t.
Something was bound to go wrong with the expropriation eventually.
Even at the press conference announcing the takeover last spring, civil servants remarked more than once in casual conversation that they really had no idea of the scope of what they were doing, and the company’s holdings were so huge that officials in several departments were at that point still trying to piece it all together.
For whatever the reason, kudos to the government for coming clean.
By doing that, it makes room in bureaucrats’ schedules to take care of the task at hand – figuring out what to do next.
