Ahem

Hasty is fair. Than again the House of Assembly sits so rarely that one as to act when it does.I am thinking they moved quickly because AB future is in doubt, before they starting trying to sell of hydro assets which they are talking about today in response to the NYSE issue.

So if a "hasty" and poorly drafted piece of legislation winds up costing the taxpayers of our province millions of dollars, am I to assume that it's no longer a bill that you would consider defends "the interests of the province and our resources"?

Mark, that would be a hasty assumption to make. The legislation may have been made in haste but that does not mean that it is full of holes.

The reason for the haste was to defend "the interests of the province and our resources."

The assumption is being made by Mark. He is assuming that this legislation was rushed (ie allusion to "poorly drafted" )and put together too quickly. How does he know that the Williams govt has not been working on this a while. It is not like the writing on the wall on this mill has not been out there since the fall of Stephenville. It may have passed the House in s speedy manner, that does not mean its preparation was done in a hasty manner.

What was so urgent the bill had to be pushed through in less than an hour?

I don't know how Mark knows, but what tips me off is the fact that the Queen's Printer cobbled together a god-awful slap-dash PDF of the bill in a real, real hurry.

Again WJM is assuming. Just because the Queens Printer slapped togther a pdf because a bill was passed through in one day does not mean the legal work was not done in a prudent and thorough manner over a period of time.

Yea, I see the Queen's Printer is given advance copies of legislation all the time to ensure it is all neat and tidy.

It is right there in the communications and legislative council planning manual. Right after draft be sure to consult with the Queen's Printers.

Foolishness really!

I think gov was heading off the third party acquisition of the hydro assets.

Mark, your initial questions remain unanswered.

They were simple and obvious then as now.

The fact they have not been answered by anyone beyond the pap that it was done in the public interest is telling.
