Mr Speaker does his job...

...selectively.

Do your job, Mr. Speaker.

All of it.

Not just some of it.

Enforce all the rules of Parliamentary procedure.

All the Standing Orders.

Not just some of them.

The boorish behaviour seen during the tenure of the current Speaker is straight out of the House of Commons... when John A Macdonald was alive.

The constant, constant, constant barrage of Members, on both sides, who ignore the rules of decorum goes unchecked. Let alone heckling, what's with the constant name references, second-person pronouns, and failure to speak through the Speaker?

And it's par for the course.

Someone should be... removed... over there.

We've seen two of the most incompetent Speakers in the 154 history of the legislature in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Without a doubt Harvey and Roger rank among these worst possible Speakers ever.

Even the period when we had no legislature was better than these last two. Pompous (in Harvey's case), evidently unfamiliar with any of the rules, traditions or other practices, weak, and blatantly and obviously incapable of doing the job.

Of course, the buffoonish behaviour today - notice of motion of moving to refer a bill to committee of the whole for one example - you'd wonder how the heck anything gets done at all, let alone the trifling stuff they do manage to pull off in the few days they spend in the legislature.

It's painfully obvious few if any on the government side have any respect for the House. Either that or they have grown so monumentally arrogant they can shag around like they did today and think no one is going to care.

The appointment of two successive incompetents to the job of Speaker merely reflects the attitude of contempt in which the House is held by (some of) the people sitting in it.
